About the Role
Key Responsibilities
Fiduciary Oversight & Governance: Ensure the organization's financial health, legal compliance, and alignment with its 501(c)(3) mission. Review and approve annual budgets and organizational policies.
Resource Development: Actively participate in the organization's fundraising engine by helping to secure corporate sponsorships, major gifts, and grants.
Strategic Leadership: Actively serve within specialized working groups, taking ownership of specific strategic goals and reporting on progress regularly.
Pipeline & Project Management: Utilize digital management tools weekly to track project statuses, update pipelines, and ensure tasks are completed by assigned deadlines.
Advocacy & Ecosystem Building: Serve as a primary ambassador for Black Lemonade, leveraging your personal and professional networks to forge public-private partnerships with municipalities, schools, and local businesses.

Organization: Black Lemonade Role Type: Volunteer Board Member (Fiduciary & Strategic Governance) Location Preference: Candidates residing within 30 miles of our operating sites in Nashville, TN; Evansville, IN; or Memphis, TN are highly preferred.
Role Overview
The Board of Directors serves as the governing body of Black Lemonade. We are currently seeking high-capacity, strategic leaders to join us as we execute our aggressive growth plans.
We operate a dynamic, highly engaged working board. Members are expected to take ownership of strategic initiatives, drive resource development, and act as highly responsive, accountable leaders to push the organization forward.
Baseline Requirements
To ensure our board operates with the highest level of efficiency, all prospective members must meet the following baseline criteria:
Geographic Proximity: Preference is given to individuals living within a 30-mile radius of our core operating sites (Nashville, Evansville, or Memphis) to facilitate local partnerships and physical program support.
Financial Commitment: Must have the capacity and willingness to pay personal annual board dues, establishing a foundation of 100% financial participation from our leadership. Additional "give/get" fundraising goals may apply.
Time & Capacity: Must have the realistic bandwidth to consistently attend board meetings, working sessions, and an annual leadership retreat.
Responsiveness & Accountability: Must be highly responsive to organizational communications, capable of completing onboarding pre-work on time, and comfortable adhering to strict reporting schedules.

Founded in June of 2020, Black Lemonade is a 501c3 solution-oriented nonprofit dedicated to turning lemons into lemonade for our minority and underserved youth. We remove barriers and create pathways to success through our core initiatives: a dynamic summer camp, an immersive afterschool program, and engaging digital internships. All of our programs are heavily focused on cultivating the next generation of youth leadership.
