About the Role
Black Lemonade is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Accountant to manage our financial operations, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency in our processes. This individual will be responsible for maintaining our financial records, performing reconciliations, supporting audits, and providing strategic financial insights to help increase monthly revenue and strengthen donor management.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
Manage and maintain accurate financial records using QuickBooks.
Perform monthly reconciliations for all accounts, ensuring accuracy and identifying discrepancies.
Oversee receipt matching and expense tracking to ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations.
Prepare and present monthly financial reports to leadership and the Board of Directors.
Audit Preparation and Compliance
Support the preparation of annual audits by coordinating with external/interal auditors and ensuring all necessary documentation is available.
Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations, including nonprofit accounting standards and the GAAP.
Donor Management
Create and maintain detailed nonprofit donor ledgers, tracking contributions, donor information, and funding allocations.
Collaborate with the development team to ensure accurate recording of donor receipts and acknowledgments.
Revenue and Strategy
Provide strategic advice on increasing monthly revenue, including suggestions for cost optimization, grant opportunities, and diversification of funding sources.
Analyze financial data to identify trends and make recommendations for improving financial health.
Other Duties
Assist in preparing budgets and forecasts in collaboration with leadership.
Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to improve efficiency.
Provide guidance on financial best practices for nonprofit organizations.
Requirements
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
CPA or equivalent certification (preferred).
Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
Skills and Knowledge
Proficiency in QuickBooks (required).
Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, including fund accounting and donor management.
Experience with audit preparation and compliance.
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for presenting financial information.
